Story of inspiration

Biography: From Oaxaca to World

From the fertile lands of San Andrés Huaxpaltepec, Oaxaca, Angel Velasco grew up surrounded by the beauty of nature, tradition and Mixtec customs. Coming from a humble family dedicated to farm work, Angel found in art a way to express himself and connect with his culture. His talent emerged from an early age, drawing what he saw around him: landscapes, dances and everyday moments.

These first steps in art led him to participate in competitions that marked the beginning of his artistic journey to the city of Oaxaca and, later, to UNAM in Mexico City, where he trained with outstanding teachers.

First contact with art through the environment and rural life.

Artistic Training: Creative Growth

Angel Velasco has traveled a path full of formal and practical learning, always seeking to perfect his technique and find new forms of expression. He studied Plastic Arts at the UABJO and then moved to the UNAM to specialize in woodcut techniques, monumental graphics and mural painting.

In his training he had the privilege of being guided by great teachers such as Mariano Pineda, Shinzaburo Takeda, and Pedro Ascencio, who left a deep mark on his artistic vision. His interest in illustration led him to take additional workshops that enriched his style, giving a particular focus to each detail that he captures in his works. His education is a testament to his dedication to the craft, going through various workshops and perfecting his art with each brushstroke.

Angel Velasco's talent has been recognized on several occasions, which reaffirms the quality and depth of his work. Since his youth, Angel has managed to stand out in local and national art competitions. In 2004, got the Third place in the First Youth Painting Competition, which was just the beginning of a series of successes that motivated him to continue forward. 2009, received an honorable mention in the “Don Benito Juárez” painting contest, and in 2013, was awarded first place in the “ABC of Personal Data” cartoon contest.
